Today’s real destination wedding in Begur, Catalonia was quite simply a joy to edit. While going through the images, I must have beckoned at Amy to come look at different photographs about twenty times and both of us couldn’t stop smiling. It’s full happiness and a cheeriness that is so infectious, we are sure you will be grinning from ear to ear too! Wonderfully portrayed by the photographic duo, Roberto and Maria, Laura and Ian who are both event planners in London planned their wedding in six months and really show us all exactly how a destination wedding should be done. I for one will be taking a page or two from their wedding planning book!

From the Bride:

“Ian and I met in 2006 at a fancy dress party and from the moment we got engaged, we knew we wanted our wedding to be relaxed and informal, set in beautiful surrounding with fantastic food and drink. We actually have no connection with Catalunya but Ian’s parents have a house in France and when we decided to start looking for a wedding venue, we thought Languedoc would make sense. We drove all the way along the coast and when we got to the border we thought ‘why not’ and went on into Catalunya. There we found beautiful Begur and knew instantly that this was going to be the place.

We run our own events business in London so initially, we thought we would be able to arrange the wedding ourselves. However the language barrier became an issue for us, especially as we were having our ceremony and reception in venues that hadn’t run weddings before so we decided to take on a wedding planner and I was very lucky to find Angela from ‘Catalonia Weddings Bourique’. Angela is based in London, but runs weddings back in her home country. She was incredible. She listened to all our ideas (there were a lot of them!) and made them a reality. We simply couldn’t have done it without her.

Our ceremony took place in an old Cuban mansion in the centre of Begur town and so we brought in a fantastic Cuban street band from Barcelona and of course had lots of Mojitos. The dinner and party was at Hotel Vintage on the coast. As things had been quite relaxed at the house, I made the dinner feel a little more luxe by bringing in gold décor to the dinner tables through napkin rings, cutlery and table stands.

The best decision we made was taking a chance of our band ‘Made in Barcelona’. They normally busk in Barcelona and I had found them on you tube.  They were exactly what we wanted but we weren’t sure if they would actually turn up. We were so happy to hear them playing in the garden as soon as the ceremony finished! Along with the Cuban drinks and band, we had tapas straight after the ceremony and I used lavender in the floral table centres – and we danced till 4am in the morning!

Our most memorable moment was our vows. We wrote our own, which made the service so personal. We haven’t a single regret and we were so glad that we pushed for what we wanted, it was worth it all in the end and we would advise everyone to do the same. It was a perfect weekend.”
