Today’s destination wedding is completely worthy of French romance and we have the images to prove it! Yes, Therese Aherne is making her long-awaited FAB début and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Simon and Jo along with their wedding planner Claire organised this stunning wedding from Ireland and made the brilliant decision of flying Therese to France with them to capture their three day soirée (can you tell I’m practicing my French words today?!). The view will take your breath away.

Simon and Jo met when Jo moved to Ireland to start her new job but only planned to stay a few months. They met at work and nine years later, she is still happily in Ireland with Simon and their beautiful 5 month old daughter!

From the Bride..

“We choose to have a destination wedding. We decided on France, because the weather was nice, and we both love France. The biggest challenge was organising the whole event and finding a suitable venue. I found a wedding planner online – Claire. She was excellent! we went to Nice for 3 days, and she drove us up and down the coast looking at venues. We chose Chateau La Napoule,, just outside Cannes.

The second challenge was obviously the language barrier, this was one of the main reasons for hiring a wedding planer. We were very lucky with Claire, her and her team went above and beyond to help make our wedding extra special.

We had a 3 day event. The night before the wedding we had a casual dinner with our guests at a beach front restaurant, followed by drinks and music at the local Irish Pub. The 2nd day was our wedding. We had a ceremony in the gardens of the Chateau, followed by a drinks reception overlooking the sea, a meal in the courtyard and band and dj. The 3rd day we had a very casual all day pool party / BBQ in the villa where we were staying in. We organized the food and drink ourselves, but our wedding planner helped us find the villa, and arranged bus transfers up to the villa.

For both the wedding and pool party we were lucky enough to be able organize the drink and barstaff ourselves, and bought the wine and spirits in a supermarket in France. We had some friends drive a van over from Dublin, with the Kegs, Glasses, and the bands equipment. Doing all of this ourselves saved us a lot of cash and enabled us to have the wedding in such a beautiful venue.

The downside to the chateau is that they only allow certain suppliers/decorators in the venue as it is a museum by day. Although they were all very professional, and the flowers, tables and setting we amazing.

One of the things I did myself, was the table signs, name cards, and seat allocation chart, which we hung from one of the large oak trees in the courtyard. This was nice alternative to the regular setting board.

We also set up a diary room with a video recorder where guests could leave messages.”

Thanks so much to Simon and Jo for sharing their beautiful day with us and a big “Merci” to Therese Aherne for the photography. Check her website for some more lovliness and information on her services!
