Elopements have always been a popular choice amongst couples planning their wedding. Some couples want their wedding to be a very personal affair, for just the two of them to enjoy without any stress or pressures. Elopements can be such a romantic choice and having a photographer there to capture your special moments means that you will have the most cherished images to remind you of your wedding day for years to come…
Neil and Kim chose to do just this last September. They decided to get married in Rome and contacted Jay Studio to help them plan their perfect wedding in only 8 weeks!

Hey there! Hope we are all having a productive Monday so far?! So, today’s post was inspired by some good oul rose-tinted nostalgia! You see, I’m one of six kids so destination vacations weren’t the way we rocked in our house as children. No, our summer holidays consisted of piling into our car to head to the rental yard near Pucks Castle in Dublin where together, we would pick out / fight over what caravan we were going to rent and subsequently travel around Ireland in for two weeks that summer. One camper that sadly never made a family holiday was the ever trendy VW Camper / Kombi and now as an adult, I’m more obsessed with it than I ever was as a child. So to say that I’m pleased to see that they are fast becoming a must have for that vintage inspired wedding, would be a serious understatement and given that the 60s are to heavily influence you brides-to-be this year, we thought it would be only fitting to show you how this deadly little sixties mobile could quickly become the 3rd (and fourth wheel) to your destination wedding. In case you need another reason to include the VW Camper (other than being “totally far – out” of course ), here are 5!

1) Stuff the Baggage Allowance….
This won’t particularly work of course if you are travelling from the States / Canada / Australia to lets say Europe but if you are marrying in the same country or can travel across the continent via Eurostar, Ferry, Road etc, then this is a great way to beat the bag allowance charges. No need to worry about how you are going to pack the dress, carry all DIY decorations and get them from the airport to the venue. Just camper van it to your destination. Leave a few days earlier and enjoy the trip, stay over in the lovely little towns along the way and soak up the beauty and culture of the country you loved so much, you decided to get married there! Think of the excitement as you set off on your adventure, maybe just the two of you, maybe with close family and friends. If “roughing” it is not your idea of fun, then bring the camper and stay in hotels on the way. Or, if you trust your mans groomsmen not to lead him astray, suggest one last road trip for the boys. They can still bring all the wedding essentials and you can travel light. We don’t want any of “The Hangover” scenarios so think this one through before suggesting it ladies! I know that this is something my own father and mother would actually just LOVE to do and I think I’d love to do it with them too.

Considering running away just the two of you to get married? You might after seeing this enchanting Rome elopement!
As you might know I was married in Rome myself this Summer and have a real soft spot for Rome weddings. When Rochelle, Burcu and Erdinc’s very talented photographer, emailed me their wedding my heart melted…

Burcu and Erdinc met three years ago at work in Instanbul. They started dating a year ago and Erdinc proposed last May at Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and wanted to marry somewhere as majestic. They are both in the field of marketing and have a lot in common. Both are very Elegant. They love to shop together, so Italy’s Dolce Vita, was a prefect Destination for their wedding.

Their very romantic wedding day began when they were married in the Turkish Embassy in Rome. After the ceremony they visited their favourite sites around Rome with Rochelle capturing every magical moment.

I have a real treat for you today with Monique and Jason’s wonderful Game Reserve wedding. Monique and Jason have been living in the UK for some time now but decided it was really important for them to get married where they grew up in South Africa so they undertook the tricky task of planning their South African wedding from the UK.
When Monique started planning her big day she had two main priorities: It was hugely important for her to get married in their family church, Our Lady of Fatima, and she wanted her reception to be at Tala Game Reserve near Pietermaritzburg. The logistics seemed quite tricky as they are rather far apart, so she cleverly steered away from the typical afternoon ceremony followed by pictures and then a reception. Instead they had a morning service in Durban North and then travelled straight to Tala Game Reserve for a late lunch reception.

Today we’re delighted to introduce Lisa O’Dwyer Photography as the newest of Fly Away Bride’s sponsors. Based in Ireland, Lisa will happily travel internationally to capture your special day. You may have seen Lisa’s work previously on Fly Away Bride including an engagement shoot which she photographed for an American couple in Guinness Store House here. We’re thrilled to have Lisa onboard and because we wanted to get to know her better we had a little Q&A…
Can you tell us a little about your company and what you offer?
I’m Lisa, of Lisa O’Dwyer Photography, an American living in County Kildare with my Irish husband and two young boys. I offer a photography service that is tailored to the individual and reflects the unique story of a couple. I studied Fine Art and Art History at university, and hope to convey a fine-art style in my photography. This style is influenced by fabulous American photographers such as Jose Villa and Elizabeth Messina. Natural light is very important to this style as it gives a soft glow to the subject. In addition to capturing the beauty of weddings, I also love to capture the fun. I’m not all about style…I’m totally about substance. I really enjoy this job!

What is your approach to photographing weddings and what is your preferred style?
I follow the main participants on the day and am always on the look-out for pure emotions and capturing the beauty in a fleeting moment. I do a little bit of posing through direction of couples. It’s always fun and natural and is never cheesy. I think people need a little direction to look their very best in their shots as a newly married couple. I’m not a photojournalist just getting snapshots. I see myself as an artist or art director always looking to make my client look their very best and truly convey their joy.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK ✈ A SNAPSHOT
New York City, the American destination, for destination weddings. It’s just as easy and reasonably priced to get married in NYC as it is in Vegas, but with New York’s endless variety of public spaces, venues and restaurants, the only limit is your imagination!
New York is the capital of the U.S. wedding market, and some of the best wedding vendors in the world are based here. What’s even better? New York State passed the Marriage Equality Act this past summer, so now all couples can get married here, regardless of your sexual orientation or nationality…

Good morning! Hope you all survived the first weekend of December organising the decorations and Christmas lists!! I’m so pleased that today we can bring you Part 2 of the amazing shoot Pamela and I had the pleasure of organising in Dublin. We were so lucky to work with some of the finest suppliers this great little country of ours has to offer. The second installment, captured by Brosnan Photographic and Aga from White Tea second shooting, is full of gorgeous details so get your life-jacket and lets set sail.

Pamela from Farrell and Chase (and Fly Away Bride of course) provided the charming stationary and signage. She felt that her suite “Love Letters” lent itself perfectly to the overall theme. Instead of a guest book, messages in bottles for the Bride and Groom were used, complete with vintage ink well and feather. Romantic? Yes, very.

The Cill Airne was the perfect location for our 1930s winter travel themed shoot. The boat is full of character and there were so many lovely spaces, we were spoiled for choice. Below is another stunning brooch bouquet from another great Irish supplier. If you missed Thursdays post you will also have missed a charming hand crafted brooch bouquet complete with pocket watch hand made by the very talented Carrie of Best of Buds. Carrie gave us a choice of two but they wer just so pretty, we had to use both. An incredible piece of art, the brooch bouquet is so destination friendly.. no wilted flowers and the perfect keepsake.
