Get ready for blue skies and glamour today in this couple’s beautiful destination celebration. Mary and Barry are from the same county in Ireland, Donegal, but travelled half way across the globe to Australia before they ended up meeting each other! They actually met in the lift of an apartment building in Sydney, far from home indeed. The couple wanted a wedding abroad as their friends are from all over the world and would have to travel anyway. Since they are both based in London and share a love of good food, sunshine and wine, a destination wedding in Portugal was a natural decision- incorporating all of their loves without having to travel too far. “We basically wanted a week’s holiday with our mates, and if we had the wedding at home that wouldn’t have happened.” Well said we think! Romance in the Coves ✈ Destination Engagement in the Algarve
Our couple today got engaged when Eamonn proposed to Gemma on a beach under a cove in Albufeira. A small city on the very south edge of Portugal, this is where the couple subsequently decided to have their wedding. Gemma, a speech therapist, and Eamonn, an engineer, took a trip back there recently for this destination engagement in the Algarve. They visited the little church in Boliqueime where they are to have their ceremony. Matt + Lena Photography walked the beaches and town streets with the couple, finding picturesque locations for photos as they toured the city. Gemma was excited to show them their stunning reception venue at Grande Real Santa Eulalia Hotel where the 100 guests who will fly to joint them will be entertained. Le Club, an ultra modern “party room” in the hotel with a retro 60′s mod twist, has a stunning panoramic view of the beach and a large terrace, and the group ended up shooting on the beach there.

We have an incredibly fun post for you today and think it might even encourage you to get out and about for some merriment on this sleepy Saturday morning. Luis from Lounge Fotografia sent me a vibrant, colouful and down right deadly trash the dress shoot earlier this week and I’ve had to wait for our “Local Inspiration” day to show it to you. Lounge Fotografia are based in Infesta, near Porto in Portugal and we are so thrilled to be showing you Claudia and Hugos photosession as it is not one that is hugely popluar outside of the States. Oh and it is our first Trash the Dress at FAB! Be warned, this is not for the faint of heart and we certainly hope you like roller coaster rides!

Every now and then we receive gorgeous weddings that are not strictly “destination” in the sense that the bride and groom are locals but the thing is, they are locals in cities and countries that don’t get featured enough on blogs around the world but also happen to be very popular cities and countries for destination weddings… so we have decided that we are most definitely going to feature them as they are an incredible resource for choosing things like the perfect venue, florist and hair stylists etc. So today, we are very excited to show you the wedding of a Portugese couple, Joana and Mário’s who held their gorgeous wedding in Lisbon, Portugal. Their photographer, André of Arc Fotografia captured all the magic of this “Midsummer Night’s Dream” inspired wedding.

Palace Ruins Wedding in Portugal by Piteira Photography
This wedding in Portugal I have the delight of bringing to you today is located in the most beautiful 16th century palace and chapel ruins. Photographed by Kerry and Luis of Piteira Photography, a husband and wife wedding photography team based in Lisbon, Portugal.
Hilary and Peter got married in September 2010 in front of 150 friends and family, most of whom had flown out from Ireland for the event. In true Irish style there was lots of laughter, tears, singing, dancing and, or course, the drinks were freely flowing!
The wedding and reception took place in a small town close to Sintra, Portugal at the Paço d’Ilhas Guest House, the partially restored ruins of a 16th century palace and chapel. The entire event was outdoors, with the ceremony in amongst the walls of the ruins and the reception dinner-and-dancing in the gardens of the guest house.
