If you love Old Master paintings, atmospheric light and rolling Italian hills, we have treat for you today. Fiona and Ritchie returned for their marriage celebration to beautiful Lucca, the city that captured Fiona’s heart after she lived there for a period of several months. The couple met in London and were engaged in Australia, truly a cosmopolitan pair, and this was reflected in the travel theme that interspersed their decor. Their Tuscan destination wedding was captured by Studio Impressions, and I can’t get over the fact that almost every photo is reminiscent of a still life painting..

Italian Country Style ✈ Destination Wedding in Tuscany
Kate and Jason’s dream of a small intimate destination wedding in Tuscany came true one sunny and warm day in September, after a year of planning all the way from Australia. Kate was very clear about the idea she had of the perfect wedding- olive trees, vineyards, a view of rolling hills, good and genuine local food, excellent wine, and a relaxed atmosphere. Everything went pretty much to plan on the day, as you’ll see from the photos. As their excellent photographer Lelia Scarfiotti says, “A bride getting ready in the turret of an ancient stone farmhouse, a touching and intimate celebration in a little country church, a long table decorated with wildflowers and surrounded by love and smiles, a few romantic decorative details, the terrific light of a breathtaking Tuscan sunset, and finally a wonderful party under the light of the full moon- purely Tuscany. Simply perfect.”
Elegant and Romantic ✈ Destination Wedding in Greece
How about getting married on a Greek Island? I wouldn’t say no.. Anthea and Marty travelled half way across the globe, from Seattle in the very northwest US, to do just this. Their beautiful destination wedding in Greece was described by their photographer Anna Roussos as “elegant and romantic”. We love Anthea’s long veil and the soft, delicate pink used in her shoes, the roses and the bridesmaid dresses. More from the bride below on making the decision to have a destination wedding on Spetses island and details of the day.
Venue Spotlight ✈ Ibiza Wedding Venues
Ibiza does weddings really well. At least, the ones that we see coming in are always really stylish and fun! If you’re looking for an Ibiza destination wedding venue, you’ve come to the right place. Today we look at five venues we love- with links to weddings we’ve featured in each. There is definitely more to this Spanish island than its club scene- it also has many UNESCO World Heritage Sites due to its rich sea-life, rugged landscape and the existence of early civilization remains found here. Other beautiful sights include almond trees in blossom, looming cliffside faces, ancient salt ponds with protected wildlife, and 18 kilometers of sandy beaches. The architecture here is something special as well- traditional buildings in the Ibicencan style have with thick walls and soft, rounded edges, while churches on the island have a slightly different look as they used to be refuges from marauding pirates. We’ll have a complete destination wedding guide to Ibiza for you in the coming weeks but for now we’re going to take a look at five very special Ibiza wedding venues on the island that we love.
Available for exclusive use and located near near Santa Eularia, this villa with ’modern rustic’ decor sits on three levels on a cliff overlooking Sol D’en Serra bay. Capacity for a wedding ranges from 40 to 125 for a seated dinner, or up to 170 for a more relaxed buffet style affair. Their website has an excellent in-depth wedding detail section which covers pretty much all you would need to know to get married at this venue (actually possibly the best I’ve come across!) Here’s an amazing wedding we featured at the Amante.
This small hotel has gardens spread over two of their terraces, with greenhouses that specialise in succulents (perhaps an option for your bouquet!) Six rooms are available for guest accommodation at the hotel and they have a wedding planning service available. Here’s a wedding at Can Talaias.
Florence ✈ Destination Wedding Guide
I was in this city about ten years ago and it has stood out in my mind as the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to. It’s hard to describe the magic of walking down a little side street, turning a corner, to be suddenly faced with the Duomo facade. So much beauty in one city! I was enchanted. If you’re considering Florence or the Tuscany area for your destination wedding, between April and October is the best time to go- although avoid August if you can as it gets hot and sticky in the city. So first a little look at the nitty gritty of legalities etc, and then on to the fun stuff like picking a venue! (We will be having a detailed look in the coming weeks about the legalities of getting married in different countries in Europe, so stay tuned for a lot more on this.)
DESTINATION WEDDING LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
The good thing about getting married in Italy is that there are no residency requirements beforehand. It’s still advised though that couples start looking into paperwork at least five months before the wedding date.
Legal documents you will need include:
- Valid passport
- Long-form birth certificate
- Divorce decree/death cert (if either are applicable)
- Certificate of No Impendium to Marriage (this can be obtained in Italy from your country’s embassy)
US and Australian citizens need a sworn declaration (Atto Notorio) from the Italian authorities, and Canadian citizens need an affidavit from a public notary in Canada, so make sure you go through the legal requirements for your specific country with a fine tooth comb before departing.

Torrent in Italy ✈ Positano Destination Wedding
Our couple today, Shelli and Christopher, didn’t get the idyllic blue skies and sun that usually go along with a destination wedding. In compensation though, they did get some very dramatic photos! But this is perhaps appropriate for a couple who chose their wedding location because of a John Steinbeck essay entitled Positano. Both Shelli and Christopher love traveling and it was actually on a road trip that they got together for the first time, years after they met in high school. When the planning was finally over, joined by twenty of the couple’s family members and closest friends they journeyed across the ocean for a Positano destination wedding and an amazing holiday. When the wedding day came, torrential rain meant that the ceremony had to be moved indoors. However someone was smiling down on them because just as the ceremony ended, the clouds cleared- in time for some great photos with W. Scott Chester Photography. Read on for another very special reason that this couple think that rain is lucky on your wedding day!
Friday’s FAB 5 ✈ Elie Saab
Hi everyone! Hope you had a great week and you’re looking forward to the weekend ahead. We had a freezing week in Ireland. For all of you in America, it probably wasn’t quite as cold as your winters but we enjoyed the snow flurries while it lasted! Today we look at Paris Couture Week and Elie Saab designs below. First though we look back at the week: on Monday we saw amazing wedding venues in Santorini. It’s somewhere I have always wanted to go, maybe this year will be the year I’ll take a trip to Greece. Look at these amazing photos, doesn’t it make you want to hop on the next plane?
On Tuesday we saw a beautiful destination wedding in Italy by the amazingly talented wedding photographer Andrea Tappo. The photos really captured the mood of the day.
Wednesday saw an amazing colour post that looked at the green of the emerald stone. You can inject colour into so many different aspects of your wedding, and what a beautiful colour to choose.
Yesterday saw a dream destination wedding in Ibiza and the amazing photos were taken by photographer Gypsy Westwood. The couple, Greg and Debbie flew all the way from New Zealand with their closest family and friends to celebrate on the beautiful island. They chose the island as their wedding destination for Greg’s love of music and Debbie’s love of the dreamy, relaxed beaches and gypsy like surroundings.
Here are some of the weddings that made us sigh this week:
✈ A romantic Californian wedding
✈ A very cool South African wedding
Friday Fashion ✈ Elie Saab
This week saw couture week in Paris. Designers such as Chanel, Versace, Giambattista Valli and Christian Dior all showed off their amazing designs. One of our favourites here at Fly Away Bride is Elie Saab. He never fails to impress and leaves us all wishing one day we could wear one of his gowns. He showed off the amazing lace and crystal encrusted designs in different colours such as Red, Pink, Black and Mauve and of course finished the show with a huge wedding dress. Below are some of our favourites from the show. Which one is yours?

A Tuscany Romance ✈ Destination Wedding in Florence
A beautiful sunny Tuscan evening. A Jenny Packham dress. Recipe for the perfect wedding? We think so! Sarah and Chris got married in Florence with their photographer Cinzia Bruschini on hand to capture the relaxed atmosphere with some great shots. The couple chose to have a destination wedding in Florence to avoid having to conform to traditional wedding expectations, and Italy seemed the perfect choice as it both modern but still laid back and friendly. They fell in love with Il Salviatino as a venue because.. well, you’ll see why!
Love in La Villa ✈ Destination Wedding in Italy
We are pretty excited today to be able to bring you this gorgeous destination wedding in Italy, and this time the bride and groom are all the way from Australia. Louise and Robert married in the beautiful setting of LaVilla Hotel in Piedmont, Italy, after a nine month romance. The day has been kindly showcased by their excellent photographer, Gianluca Adovasio, and really this couple are so stunning that I probably spent much longer than was necessary putting the photos together- it’s hard to take your eyes off them!
