I loved doing the makeup for the Sail Away With Me shoot!
It’s always such a pleasure to do something so glamorous. Seeing as we were going for an authentic 1930′s style, I used colours that would resonate with the period for Aisling’s makeup. I wanted to keep her skin slightly matte but with a little luminosity to keep it flattering – too matte is always bad and never looks good for photos so bear that in mind if planning your own wedding look.

The typical eye design of the era was a dusky eye, not smoky, as that would be too dark, so I prefer the term dusky! I used a satin-matte grey shadow all over the eyelid and up to the socket in a shade called Rain by Stila. I defined Aisling’s brows quite strongly as this was very much part of the style of the time. The cheeks are softly shaded in Blushbaby by MAC which is a gorgeous deep rose tone and for the dark lips I used a Sisley colour called Plum. Even though this is based around a period makeup look it is, in fact, still very contemporary and perfect for Wintery weddings.

For the night time look I added a deeper charcoal to the eyes and patted a vintage gold shimmer shadow on top to pick up the beading in the costume. The shade is called Golightly by Stila. I decided on a deep ruby red for the lips to ramp up the glamour. Dubonnet by MAC is one of my very favourite red colours that actually suits almost everyone as it’s not too bright.

The one thing I always recommend to my brides is to play around with makeup, particularly if you are going for a vintage look with the rest of the styling. Sometimes people feel the need to play down their makeup but in fact finding the right red lipstick or a slick of liquid liner might be the very detail that brings the entire look together. Keep a scrapbook or build a moodboard on Pinterest of looks you like and bring them to your makeup and hair artists to try out at your trial. If you’re not comfortable with the look once it’s on, that’s fine, but at least you tried it out…and that’s half the fun!

Good morning! Hope you all survived the first weekend of December organising the decorations and Christmas lists!! I’m so pleased that today we can bring you Part 2 of the amazing shoot Pamela and I had the pleasure of organising in Dublin. We were so lucky to work with some of the finest suppliers this great little country of ours has to offer. The second installment, captured by Brosnan Photographic and Aga from White Tea second shooting, is full of gorgeous details so get your life-jacket and lets set sail.

Pamela from Farrell and Chase (and Fly Away Bride of course) provided the charming stationary and signage. She felt that her suite “Love Letters” lent itself perfectly to the overall theme. Instead of a guest book, messages in bottles for the Bride and Groom were used, complete with vintage ink well and feather. Romantic? Yes, very.

The Cill Airne was the perfect location for our 1930s winter travel themed shoot. The boat is full of character and there were so many lovely spaces, we were spoiled for choice. Below is another stunning brooch bouquet from another great Irish supplier. If you missed Thursdays post you will also have missed a charming hand crafted brooch bouquet complete with pocket watch hand made by the very talented Carrie of Best of Buds. Carrie gave us a choice of two but they wer just so pretty, we had to use both. An incredible piece of art, the brooch bouquet is so destination friendly.. no wilted flowers and the perfect keepsake.

Hi everyone! I’m delighted to be guest blogging here on the lovely Fly Away Bride.
I’ve been thinking about all of the important elements of planning your beauty theme for a destination wedding, or any wedding for that matter, and it all comes down to one little phrase Decide The Vibe!
Of course there is a sequence that you will adhere to when it comes to facials, tanning (if you choose to), nail and hair maintenance, but these are all by the by if you don’t know what you would like the end result to look like.
So I always suggest to my brides to ‘get inspired’… flick through magazines and bridal blogs like this one. Watch old movies. Research famous classic and timeless brides. Create a scrapbook with pictures that grab you. Or do none of these if it’s not your thing and you know you want to look just like you on a regular day, albeit in a white dress. But find out what look make you feel excited, which one makes you a little bit giddy with the concept of looking like that on the day.
