Friday’s FAB 5 ✈ City Wedding Dresses

I was inspired by a trip to New York last weekend to think about city wedding dresses. What an amazing city! It got me thinking: what kind of dress does a city bride wear? In Sex and the City, the chic wedding suit that Carrie ended up getting wed in speaks more to me of urban style than the dramatic Vivienne Westwood ball gown (although of course I enjoyed seeing her in that gown too!) I’ve collected five city style gowns below, but first I’ll quickly recap on the FAB week. Speaking of chic, if you didn’t catch the SteamLine Luggage vintage style cases, they’re worth a peek. Monday saw our Amalfi Coast Destination Wedding Guide with vendors and venues; those considering a wedding in Italy should definitely check it out! A Pride and Prejudice style Irish wedding was our eye candy of the week and after this we had a FAB Guide on the legalities of getting married in Ireland. It’s surprisingly easy compared to several other European countries! Yesterday we saw a romantic and atmospheric destination wedding in a Spanish monastery. A rain shower saw the ceremony moved into the cloisters instead of the gardens. How pretty!

What makes a city dress? It varies for different people. I think of an elegant bride on the steps of a town hall (I guess we have SATC to thank for placing that image firmly in our consciousness!) Friday’s Fab 5 ✈ Statement Earrings

Hi all. Hope you’re all great and had a fantastic week. I am super excited this morning as we’re going to look at statement earrings, but also because I’m flying to Berlin. I have always wanted to go to Berlin and the most exciting part for me is the fact that the Christmas markets will be on. I’ve been to Christmas markets before but haven’t been to the traditional ones in Germany. I can’t wait to be drinking mulled wine and browsing through Christmas decorations, and apparently it’s going to snow this weekend so myself and my boyfriend are very excited as we both love snow! I hope you all have a great weekend wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. I’ll start a quick rundown of all the wonderful things we looked at this week. Last Saturday we had a very cute Saturday song from the movie Up, called Married life. Have another listen here. I’ve always loved Italy and was lucky enough to go there to visit a good friend of mine Rosemary a few years ago. On Monday we featured the Italian coast and countryside as a wedding destination. We went through some fabulous venues and places you could have your wedding. I think my favourite is Positano, on the Amalfi Coast. The views are incredible!

Tuesday saw a destination wedding in Sweden. Their wedding photos show off the Swedish countryside beautifully. On The Wednesday Wishlist we had a feature on Johanna Johnson and the release of her 2013 collection. The dresses and headpieces are fabulous. Yesterday we saw an amazing rustic styled wedding shoot. We adored the flowers and the sweets!

As all my friends and family know I am in love with jewels. Bracelets, necklaces and my favourite, earrings. I have always worn big statement earrings. I wore amazing (well I thought they were!) orange ones for my debs (the Irish equivalent of a prom) and from then on I have bought so many pairs. Every time I go abroad I buy a new pair so I have some unusual ones. I think whenever I get married I’ll wear some nice earrings, the pictures below are some of my favourites. If you’re a bride to be and love jewelry why not add some glitz or colour to your day.

Destination Wedding Location in Spain

Today we have a treat in store as this is one of the loveliest cities I’ve ever been to. I stumbled across San Sebastian almost by accident, we had gotten tickets to a concert there (Bruce Springsteen, amazing) so we decided to plan a holiday around the concert. As it turned out we were completely bowled over by the city- it seemed like we had discovered Spain’s best kept secret. If you’re searching for a destination wedding location in Spain, I would definitely recommend having a look at San Sebastian. Located in the Basque country of Spain’s north coast (San Sebastian is also known as Donostia) the city is almost on the Spain/France border, and the coast keeps the temperature mild year round here with averages of 21°C/69°F in summer and °9C/47°F in winter.

Getting Married Abroad in Spain

San Sebastian is really more like a town than a city with pretty much everywhere accessible on foot and an upbeat, festive vibe. There was a lovely Art Nouveau touch to the buildings and the place seemed really clean and well-maintained overall. The Old Town is a must-see with narrow cobbled lanes, street stalls, and is rumored to have more bars for its size than any other city quarter in the world. The shopping area has numerous small boutiques and designer shops- really there is something for everyone here.

Gotham Hall ✈ New York City

I can’t get enough of this ballroom. Gotham Hall is a large former bank with magnificent greek columns and marble floors. The ballroom features Art Deco style and a vaulted dome ceiling which reaches seven stories high. Impressive! Because it’s such a big space (the ballroom can hold up to 1200) they often use the sweeping curtains you can see in the photos to make it a bit more intimate. Gotham Hall has even hosted a Grammy after-party and a fashion show. A venue to make you feel like a star!

The ultimate fairytale castle, Neuschwanstein was reportedly Walt Disney’s inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland.

It’s Friday- line up for the weekend to begin! We look at more France-inspired loveliness with French bridal hairstyles below but first, our roundup of the week begins with some lovely French wedding traditions on Monday. Then on Tuesday we had a beautiful and intimate wedding in Paris (with a glamourous bride!). We looked at sophisticated French style with Audrey Tatou in our Wednesday Wishlist, and yesterday we saw three gorgeous venues in France to get married in.

Friday Fashion ✈ French Bridal Hairstyles

French plaits, French twists and versions of these hairstyles are always in fashion and in keeping with our theme this week we have prepared a few images for your inspiration. Below are two classic French twists, a simple yet sophisticated stye that will stay put all day, and also a version of the french plait called the ‘conch shell plait’ which is intricate and lovely.

You can also incorporate French plaits or twists into a down-style. A bit more relaxed, this method will help to keep hair in place and a bit more tidy than simply having it down. Gives a lovely crown or halo effect too!

For those who want an up-style but want something a little less restrictive than the French twist, the loose French plait (or an upside down one like below) or French-style multiple buns would work well. I just love this antique Art Nouveau hairpin- would be a lovely addition to any hairdo.

Yahoo it’s Friday again and what a fun week it’s been! For those of you that were celebrating Wednesday, hopefully you have recovered now just in time to enjoy a relaxed weekend!

To start off our week, we had some serious wedding fun at Disneyland and continued our American theme on Monday with inspiration in the form of one of America’s most famous brands.. Coca Cola. On Tuesday then we shared this sweet engagement session in Washington DC before a Nautical Themed 4th of July Wedding on Wednesday! Donut Wedding Cake

One thing I really truly miss about America is waking up on the tour bus and heading straight into the theatre in the morning to get my hands on fresh coffee and the yummy donuts that were nearly always left out for us. I’ve kind of stopped eating them now because there are just not the same here and because my metabolism isn’t as fast as it once was but I know the next time I’m back stateside, they are the first thing I’ll go looking for. Then I’ll head to iHop. Then to the Cheesecake factory. Yum to it all. One trend I’ve come across a few times now and absolutely adore is the donut wedding cake. A real crowd pleaser if you ask me but if it’s a little too much for you, just look how this couple served them up at their wedding using donut balls! Amazing.

Morning all! How have we been this week?! Another busy one here at FAB and there are a few changes on the way but we will keep you up to date as always! My nice plan for the weekend is to do nothing but enjoy being at home for the first weekend in a long time and for the last weekend in our beautiful home in Clare. We sadly have to move in a few weeks and I’m not looking forward to it one bit. Anyway, back to today and before we move on to our FAB 5 and consider umbrellas at weddings, lets have a look at what’s been happening this week.

On Monday we had some bicycle wedding inspiration for those of you who enjoy the hobby. I must admit, this theme brought back some unwanted memories from my leaving cert, I couldn’t get Patrick Kavanagh and his bicycles going by in two’s and three’s out of my head! On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of sharing one fine and elegant wedding from the smoky mountains of Tennessee. On Wednesday, we had a surprise engagement in beautiful Rome. Yesterday then we were in beautiful Mexico for a wedding on the beach which brings us nicely to today, Friday.

Maybe not the most weather appropriate post this morning given the beautiful sunny weather (you’d never think that there was such terrible flooding around Ireland earlier this week) but I love umbrellas and wellies and own lots of them… in all sorts of colours…. em, and they all match! It’s part of living in Ireland and the weather we get, when you can’t beat it, join it kind of attitude I suppose! Anyway, today’s post was really inspired by this beautiful wedding by Christina Brosnan. I love that this couple took on the weather and still had their out door wedding in the rain. I also really love the umbrellas and how they add to their beautiful pictures. Umbrellas also make beautiful props, hanging upside down from the roof and just like the bicycle theme on Monday, you could really use them as a motif through out your wedding day, on your invitations, napkins, mini umbrellas in drinks and so on. I will admit, it’s hard to find pretty umbrellas so I’ve rounded up 5 of my favourite from the Cath Kidston and Lisbeth Dahl ranges in the hope that it might inspire you to embrace the umbrella.
