Outdoor Ceremony Backdrops

Our inspiration pick this week is outdoor ceremony backdrops for those of you having a blessing abroad or outside. Here are 5 ideas that we love and that are practical with a bit of planning ahead, well maybe all but one!

Ribbons

Easy to carry or buy abroad but such an eye catching detail. If you can’t manage to put up a structure to tie them to, we love how they look draped across a tree. Easy peasy

Paper Flowers

Loving these gigantic paper flowers. Might be a bit tricky to carry abroad but if you have a few days to relax before your big day, these would a make a really enjoyable DIY project with family and friends. Otherwise, downsize. The paper crane and flower garland can be made before you leave, packed in a small box and assembled when you arrive! Gorgeous.

Bunting

We will never tire of bunting. It’s so pretty and makes decorating so simple, not to mention packing!

Stuctures

OK, maybe not one for a destination wedding but we had to include them. If you have a crafty man / woman in your life, then get them to work! These make such a statement.

Frames

We know that travelling abroad can sometimes mean leaving important family and friends behind which is why this backdrop idea is our favourite. Place pictures of your loved ones into the frames and take them with you. They will be right alongside you as you say I do.

Richard and Rachel’s Wedding in Ireland ✈ by This Modern Love

This modern love_010

A while back we mentioned that we were going to publish local weddings every now and again for the simple reason that they can provide great inspiration and information on a particular area and today, we have a such a treat. Richard and Rachel are one creative couple and wonderfully resourceful. They made the menus themselves and picked up so many great things in Ikea to dress their venue, like jam jars for their sweet, candles, art easels for their table numbers and lots of twine to tie everything together! Their reception was held in a converted Mill and we just love how they made use of the entire building and it’s three floors. Tim and Claire from This Modern Love are responsible for the ah-mazing photographs of this beautiful day so I’m just going to hand this wedding over to their wonderful work!

Lacey and Franks Destination 2nd Wedding in Vegas ✈ By The Emerics

Las Vegas The Emerics_008

Today’s fun lovin’ couple, Lacey & Frank, travelled to Las Vegas to got hitched last year but because they were on a tight budget, they couldn’t splurge on wedding photography. So what did they do? They did it again! Yes, this year on their one year wedding anniversary they decided they wanted to commemorate their marriage and in Lacey’s own words,  “be super-married” so they came back to Vegas to renew their vows but this time, with super photogrhapers The Emerics to catch all the goodness that went undocumented the first time round. Lacey wore her original wedding dress and also brought her original DIY fabric & brooche bouquet – it’s so cute! They wanted a fun portrait session that not only reflected how much they love each other (awe!) but also showed off their funny & outgoing personalities. And because they are a pair of jokers, they brought along with them a bunch of fun props to incorporate into the session that meant really good things for us!

Sarah and Dylans Destination Wedding in California by Rochelle Mort Photography

Boone Rochellle Mort Photography_023

Dylan flies helicopters for the US Navy and Sarah is in graduate school for International Peace Studies and they are one style savvy couple. They live in Norfolk Virgina but decided to have the wedding at a central California coastal town where both of their families vacationed when they were children. The bride’s crafty family added so many personal touches to this breezy beach wedding with Sarah’s mother, Jana, doing all of the the flowers for the wedding day and her 6 brothers and one sister, setting up the up for the beach ceremony.

From Sarah…

We went to Sierra high school together, in a small mountain town of central California, acknowledging through the few interactions we had, a special connection between us, a mutual admiration. Dylan joined the Navy, I moved to Orange County for college, our conversations became few and far in between. The next Christmas at a friends party, he pulled me aside and admitted his wish, to be able to one day marry a girl like me. An ironic foreshadowing to the years ahead. I left to study abroad in Cyprus, he left for the East Coast. Parting ways again to resort to sporadic facebook conversations. Upon returning home however, everything changed.

Dylan and I’s relationship became much more than the admiration filled friendship previously shared. Transitioning back home, and with him to Norfolk-Virginia, we found encouragement and support in each other. We began writing profusely, talking non-stop every chance we got and wondering what a deeper relationship would look like with the distance between us. Even though we had never been together, we decided to start a long distance relationship.

When he came home for Christmas, we went on our first date. Seeing each other and being together for the first time since all that had progressed between us. Needless to say we spent every possible waking moment together, Dylan met my family, quickly becoming apart of it and during those two short, precious weeks we started something beautiful.

I moved out to Norfolk VA last June for graduate school and to be with Dylan. I am getting my MS in Conflict Analysis and Resolution and Dylan is an aircrewman in the US Navy.
