We are back in Barcelona today for Ginelle and Collin’s very sweet engagement session by En Route Photography. Regular readers will know how much I love this vibrant city as it has so much to offer, whether you are travelling solo, with family or as a couple. From the stunning architecture to the white sandy beaches, it’s pretty special and nearly every time we feature something from Barcelona on FAB, we find something new to love. Ginelle struck gold with fiance Collin as not only did he surprise her with a proposal on their anniversary, he also planned this trip to Spain as an extra treat. We were delighted to learn that Ginelle found Gabby’s work on FAB and that the result is todays romantic stroll through Barcelona.

We eventually became incredibly close and started spending a lot of our free time together. After studying late one evening, I finally worked up the courage to ask her out on a date. That leap of faith turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made, and the rest is history.

How did you get engaged?

We went to dinner for our five-year anniversary at a beautiful restaurant with panoramic views of the city. After dinner, I arranged for the hostess to offer us a tour of the event space above the restaurant on the top floor of the building. She took us on a tour that ended in a large ballroom with only a small table, two chairs, one bottle of champagne, and two glasses (and a photographer) inside. It was there that I asked Ginelle to marry me, and she said yes! The hostess then led us to another large room filled with our families and friends, both old and new, waiting to surprise Ginelle. Family had traveled from as far away as Canada to celebrate with us, making it a truly special night that we will never forget.

Why did you decide to have an engagement session?

In addition to getting engaged on our anniversary, Collin also surprised me with a trip to Spain! Naturally, I thought that it would be the perfect location to get our engagement photos taken. I have always loved Barcelona, and actually found Gabby through an engagement post here on Fly Away Bride!

How did you choose the location for your session?

Given that it would be our first time in Barcelona, we initially had no idea where to have our session. Thankfully, Gabby sent us a list of her recommended spots in the city long before our trip. She has so many great prior shoots at various places in the city – we had plenty of options! Park Güell and Parc del Laberint were our favorites among her work, so we rolled the dice and couldn’t be happier with the result!

Any tips/advice for couples travelling to the same place you did for a photo session?

Most important advice we can give: book Gabby. Her work speaks for itself, and her personality and professionalism make entire shoot feel natural. We were a full hour late to our shoot (victims to Barcelona rush hour), and she didn’t mind at all. In fact, she went beyond our scheduled time to accommodate our blunder. We can’t emphasize enough how blown away we were by the experience and the final product. Other than that, we’d recommend shooting in the evening leading up to the beautiful Barcelona sunset – unbelievable pictures. Just be sure to give yourselves plenty of time if commuting during rush hour!

What are your wedding plans, if any?

We plan to elope to Napa Valley with a few family members and friends in the spring.
