Today’s wedding is a real gem. Quite literally. You see, Canadians Craig and Chelsey decided that for their small, intimate family wedding, they would like to travel to Europe to tie the knot. Originally the plan was to get married in Germany but the legalities proved to be too challenging. After widening their search area to include Austria, Chelsey discovered that they could get married at Kristallwelten, The Swarovski Crystal World Museum in Wattens. Their unique wedding was captured effortlessly by the team at Forma Photography and while we suspect you are going to thoroughly enjoy browsing through the photos, we really think you should take a moment and read Craig’s proposal story. It’s pretty epic.

From the Bride

“Craig and I met while working at the same courthouse- one evening we ended up attending the same party. We ended up spending the whole party talking to each other and from there we started to date. The proposal came a few years later. Craig had just gotten his solo pilot’s license. He rented a plane and took me up for the first time. He had put up balloons with a painted question mark in our backyard (which our flight path took up over). As we flew over the backyard, he gave me the ‘missing balloon’ and got down on one knee. When I popped the balloon I discovered the ring inside!”

– (What I want to know is, who was flying the plane when he got on one knee? Honestly, it’s been bothering me all morning!- Ed)

“We were planning on getting married in Europe but were not sure exactly where. We initially looked to get married in Germany but realised the legalities might be difficult. I began to research weddings in surrounding countries and came across the Kristallwelten. I was immediately convinced I wanted to get married there. It wasn’t very hard to convince Craig either – especially when I pointed out it would be easy to think of appropriate anniversary gifts!

Our biggest challenge with planning from Canada was having to do most of the work through the internet. It required a lot of research to determine trustworthy individuals who could assist us. In the end, we hired Julia Capalbo. She was a great help in planning the small details and the legal components. She also acted as translator for the wedding ceremony.

Our best decision was marrying one another. Aside from that, the other was having a wonderful trip with our wedding. We spent a little over three weeks in Europe. It was wonderful that we got to initially spend time with family and friends, and then we were able to be together to create fantastic memories as a newly wed couple. (Also picking a wedding date that meant we would be able to attend Oktoberfest with our guests!). One of our favourite moments from the day was when we first met up before the ceremony. Seeing each other before we took that big step in our lives was beautiful and wonderful private moment.”

Didn’t mean to cause any concern Ed! He only got down on his knee and gave me the missing balloon once he safely landed the plane! We flew over the house and then returned back to the airport where the rest of the events unfolded. Nothing but safe flying I promise :)
