A few weeks ago we shared this really lovely engagement session in Howth, Dublin and we’ve been looking forward to posting Candice and Nick’s real destination wedding in Dublin ever since! On a rare, beautifully sunny day in Dublin, these two lovebirds exchanged “I do’s” in one of the cities swankiest hotels, the Westbury. Their fun colour scheme of bright red and the guys choice of footwear says lot about Candice and Nick and what they wanted their wedding to feel like, very relaxed, good fun for everyone who travelled over from the UK and full of their own personality. After their ceremony, the couple strolled Grafton Street to capture some of these truly gorgeous photographs, not that we would expect anything less from our talented friend, Lisa O’Dwyer. Enough babble from me.. Candice is the lady to be listening to.
Catch up on their engagement session here if you are curious to know how Nick and Candice met and got to this beautiful wedding day. We were mad to find out why they chose Dublin…
“We picked Dublin in Ireland for our destination as Nick had been many times and always said what a special place it was and when we finally went together in 2011, we knew it was where we wanted to get married. Now it’s a special place to us that we can always go back to with happy memories. We chose the Westbury Hotel to get married in because of its city centre location, proximity to St Stephen’s Green for our photos & because it felt luxury without being pretentious! The staff there treated us very well too, even bumping our room up on our wedding night to the Presidential Suite! We didn’t have a wedding planner – just arranged things between ourselves and the wedding coordinator in the hotel.”
Yep – I’m loving these Vans. They are good fun and very comfortable for exploring a city on your wedding day!
“The hardest thing was not being able to organise things in person – most of it was through email & some by telephone. We only managed to visit Dublin twice before the wedding – once for our engagement shoot & to scout out venues, & once to see the florist, find a hairdresser & tie up any loose ends. This was probably for the best in the end though as we made sure we did everything we needed to do in those 2 visits! We used Johnnie Cupcakes for our wedding cupcakes which was great – the cupcakes were delicious & freshly made to order (we used our own fruit cake for the top tier). The hairdresser was also brilliant – behind the Westbury there is Toni & Guy on Clarendon Street. We had Jess & Hollie who spent a long time getting our trial right the day before, they suggested & tried lots of different styles til we found the right one & even tweaked it on the day so we got it exactly right. It was really good as they gave us the lowest quote by a mile, & we were able to nip across the road there & back without needing to pay to have a hairdresser on site. We also used Make-Up Forever next door to get eyelashes after the hairdresser!”
“Our colour scheme was red – we didn’t want purple or pink as so many weddings have, & Nick particularly wanted red roses (his family are from Lancashire & that’s the county’s flower), it also tied in with his favourite football team Manchester United! We also had different coloured roses in the bridesmaid’s bouquet & pearl details including bridal jewellery, accessories & table decorations. To make it more personal all the groomsmen wore Vans slip-on shoes in different designs with their suits – Nick’s were burgers (he had matching cufflinks!), then there was a Family Guy design, stars & stripes, suites of cards, & batman!”
“We didn’t cut the cake or have a first dance as we didn’t want it so formal – we only had 15 guests so we went for a sit-down meal at a restaurant in the city following the wedding where everyone could order exactly what they wanted & it was altogether more relaxed! Another unique touch was the date – we picked the 4th July even though it was a Wednesday for Independence Day as Candice is born in America & that is where we went on honeymoon!”
I have this sudden urge to hop on the Luas and head into town after sharing this! Maybe to buy some flowers from the market and head into the Westbury for a coffee! It’s a great winter’s day in Dublin too. Big congratulations to our happy couple today and thank you to both of them and Lisa for allowing us to share their engagement session, and their lovely destination wedding in Dublin city!
