This evening we are in sunny Spain for the wedding of Greg and Sally. Sally and Greg just weren’t prepared to chance the British weather and felt it was far more unlikely to rain in Spain. And so the decision was made. Last September, along with their family and friends, they travelled to Spain for their wedding in Marbella. The couple, who have a second home in Spain were thrilled when Jeremy Standley was available to capture every special moment for them. Partying the night away at the private beach villa, Villa Del Mar on the grounds of the Club Hotel in Marbella – Greg and Sally look blissfully happy and it’s clear to see that this couple are so very much in love.

In true Fly Away Bride fashion, we simply couldn’t wait to hear about the proposal and of course, why Sally and Greg chose to get married in Spain!

“Greg and I met on a blind date! Greg was friends with my best friend’s husband and they set us up. The proposal was really such a surprise! Greg took me to one of our favourite restaurants in Marbella, called Finca Besaya and I honestly didn’t have a clue until he got down on one knee!

We have a second home in Spain and we spend about 10 weeks a year there.  It’s somewhere we have lots of happy memories.  We also wanted to get married and have the sun shining and Greg didn’t want to risk the weather at home in the UK, so Spain was our perfect option. We chose the private beach villa Villa Del Mar as our wedding venue and it was amazing. The venue, service and food were all faultless.”

We love it when couples incorporate local details into their day. For Sally and Greg, they chose to have a Spanish guitar..

“I walked down the isle to a reasonably traditional processional song… Pachebel’s Canon, however I had a Spanish flamenco guitarist play it. He also played traditional Spanish music throughout the drinks receptions, where guests enjoyed Spanish cava and traditional Spanish tapas, such as Manchego cheese and Serrano ham.

Apart from that, our style was chic and classy, to mirror the opulent surrounding of Villa Del Mar.  I used Venetian mirrored glass for the table names, large silver candelabras and my table plan was framed in a guilt style. I planned my own day, but  used a planner to come and over see the wedding day itself for me. She was AMAZING and we ended forming a lovely friendship. Her name is Lucia Fraga from Caprichia Events, Marbella. Having someone in to oversee the day and take the stress away was definitely one of the best decisions I made.”

Were there any hiccups along the way?

“Liaising with the Spanish was difficult as they are very laid back and I like to be very organised.  I had to chase a lot of people up.  My florist also pulled out 3 months before hand after a year of planning everything down to the tiniest detail…. I was fortunate Lucia Fraga came to the rescue with a florist she had previously worked with that was available to take over.”

Every bride has a moment that stands out a little more than the rest, we wanted to know Sally’s!

“My husband surprised me with some think a little like the scene out of the movie Love Actually… at the end of our service musicians and singers popped out of the surrounded and started singing The Beatles’ “All You Need is Love”- I didn’t have a clue and it was totally AMAZING!!!”

And finally… Sally leaves us with a little advice!

“We drove the car out so that we could put my wedding dress, all my favours (which I had made), table plan, bridesmaids’ dresses etc… I made my husband sleep in the car with all the precious cargo!!”

Hmmm… I’m not too sure this would go down too well with my man but what a great idea! Thanks so much to Sally, Greg and Jeremy for sharing such a beautiful wedding. Be sure to check out Jeremy’s website for more wedding loveliness. We will see you back here tomorrow!
