While doing some blog surfing last week I came across Huda and Valerio’s Marrakech Palace Hotel Wedding in Morocco on OMG I’m Getting Married and my jaw nearly hit the floor! Their reception is so so stunning, the flowers amazing and the venue just beautiful, luxury at it’s finest!

When I saw that Boutique Souk had planned Huda and Valerio’s wedding I immediately jumped onto their website where I spent quite some time swooning over the beautiful wedding images. Intrigued about their service and the exotic weddings they have planned I contact Rosena, who also happens to be Irish, and asked if she could tell me more about Boutique Souk and what is involved in planning a wedding in Morocco…

Can you tell us about Boutique Souk and what you offer?

We are a bespoke wedding planner, creating special events here in Marrakech and also at the coast and Atlas mountains of Morocco. We have an international team, headed by Irish woman Rosena McKeown.

Wedding in Morocco

Where are you based and what cities/countries are you available to plan weddings in?

We are based in Marrakech providing a hands-on service for planning and also during the wedding event. We also plan in other popular Moroccan destinations such as Essaouira (the coast) and the Atlas Mountains.

Can you tell us a bit about Marrakech and why it is such a beautiful destination choice for weddings?

Marrakech is an exotic choice for a destination wedding, it has become increasingly hip due to the all year sunshine, stunning venues and locations – palaces, Riads, spectacular gardens filled with Roses, Palm and Olive Trees and of course low cost travel making it accessible for guests

Can you tell us about some of the unique wedding venues available in Marrakech?

We work across a number of venues from Classic Hotels to Palaces, Kasbahs, Riads and private houses. However our most popular venues are in the Palmeraie – the exclusive palm grove oasis of the city where there are stunning private houses and palaces with gardens that our ideal for ceremonies and outside dining and dancing etc. Most of our guests plan their weddings in the summer months to be able to host all of the celebration outside surrounded by lush parkland and star filled skies.

Is there allot of paperwork involved in planning a destination wedding in Marrakech, what are the legalities involved? Is it possible to have a civil or religious wedding in Marrakech?

It is possible to have a Catholic wedding in the church of Marrakech, which requires co-ordination between your parish priest via his Bishop to the Bishop of Morocco in Rabat – but it is possible! If not all guests should conduct their civil registry in Ireland/Europe before traveling. Most of our guests choose a non-religious ceremony with a celebrant with music, exchange of vows etc.
The paperwork for the venue etc is co-ordinated by Boutique Souk. All contracts are subject to British Law as all payments and contracts are with our UK based head-office.

What advice would you give to couples considering or already planning a destination wedding?

Good tips!
✈ Give your guests as much notice as possible, send out a save the date email with as much information on flights etc in advance to ensure guests can book their flights as cheaply as possible.
✈ Choose a planner that is based in the city where you plan to host the wedding, with good local contacts and loyal suppliers, make sure you ask for references and speak directly to previous brides about their experiences.
✈ Also choose a planner who is contracted to personally take care of all aspects of the event, so that you can relax and enjoy and spend time with your guests rather than deal with florists, musicians etc! Also, ask for a concierge service/contact co-ordinator for all guests coming, so that they have someone else to call when they need a taxi rather than you!
✈ Make sure you have contracts in place with all venues and suppliers

You can also help couples to plan their honeymoon after their destination wedding, can you tell us a bit more about this service?

Many of our couples stay on after the wedding and enjoy their honeymoon in Morocco. Some choosing to travel around, spending a night in the desert in a tent under the stars mixed with some luxury resort hotels for some pampering in the mountains or at the coast!
Boutique Souk is an ABTA registered Travel Agency so we co-ordinate honeymoons aswell as guest accommodation for the wedding etc.

Can you tell us about the people behind the business, how did you come to plan weddings in Morocco

I had been traveling to Marrakech since 1999 and was very much in the love with the city. I se t up the travel agency 6 years ago whilst living in London and working with a very special Palace Hotel – Le Palais Rhoul, www.palais-rhoul.com. The hotel had some requests for high profile weddings, which I co-ordinated on their behalf and from there through word of mouth etc, we developed the business to where it is today. I was introduced to Frederic Charmoy, a small hotel owner here to help me develop the business and through organizing other people’s weddings we ended up married ourselves! I have been living full time in Marrakech for 5 years and it is now very much home!

Have you got any exciting plans that you’d like to tell us about?

We are seeing a trend for rustic-chic weddings in very special natural settings, such as the desert, mountains etc. This year we are introducing some tented venues in the desert and also lakeside.
At the other end of the spectrum, Marrakech now has a number of spectacular 5 Star Hotels including the world famous La Mamounia where we recently transformed the ballroom into a fairytale gothic forest for a very fashionable bride!
One of the real benefits of marrying in Marrakech is the opportunity for very special décor – with flowers and candles. for our most recent wedding we used 20,000 roses and 2000 candles – which would cost the earth in Europe but here we can make accessible!
