We’ve been long time admirers of the brilliant Brancoprata photography team and are excited to share our first feature of theirs today with the beautiful wedding of Rita and Andre. Their celebration was held near the city of Oporto in northern Portugal. I love ivy and was delighted to see it used so much in this wedding, and I adore Rita’s gold ivy jewelry and her Elie Saab dress. More from the bride on their story below, but first some gorgeous images.

Rita and André’s story starts on a beautiful night in Foz do Douro after meeting online just three months previously. We’ll turn you over to the bride for details of their engagement and big day: André arranged a surprise weekend in one of our favourite places- the Douro river (world heritage Alto Douro) and had everything arranged with the hotel staff where we stayed. Dimmed room, fresh roses, chocolates, champagne, tea candles, The Greatest (Cat Power) playing, rain pouring outside and of course a diamond ring! It was just perfect. We had our wedding ceremony in Mosteiro de Leça do Balio, one of the oldest and most lovely monasteries in Portugal. We chose it because of the proximity and its beautiful simplicity. We had a Catholic ceremony officiated by André’s uncle who is a priest and gave the ceremony a lovely personal touch. The reception party was held at Quinta de Prata, a very special place that we fell in love with at first sight. Besides the amazing venue, the superbly professional staff there ensured we didn’t have to worry about anything- we didn’t even need a planner as the Quinta de Prata had this service included. We didn’t have a theme as such but had a style that was defined through the wedding preparations- we opted for white and gold colours and used ivy (the symbol of happiness) in the decoration, souvenirs and in my hair, accessories and bouquet. For André, the most memorable moment was my entrance to the monastery at the ceremony, our speech to all our beloved guests, and the surprise movie that I made for him. We think we were very lucky with the professionals we chose- that really makes a difference. All the possible challenges were diminished by the planning and experience of the vendors we chose. We have no regrets from the day and our advice to those planning their wedding would be to choose good vendors- we were lucky as ours took care of everything and did the possible (and impossible!) to make our day an unforgettable one.

Thanks to Sofia from Brancoprata for the lovely images- we hope to be featuring lots more from them in the future, and to Rita and André for sharing their story with us. Rita is actually a budding blogger on love, life and other things, if you’d like to check out her site. We’ll be back this afternoon with a post about wording etiquette for destination wedding invitations so be sure to check back in later!
