From the bride,

“I am originally from Sweden and in 2006 I decided to do a Winter season as a ski instructor in Kirchdorf in Tirol, a small village next to St. Johann in Tirol. One season turned into a second one in 2008 and then I decided I wanted to experience beautiful Tirol in the summer as well, so I decided to work a summer there before starting Uni back in Sweden. Faith had something other planned though and during the summer, Gernot and I were introduced to each other through mutual friends.

In the summer of 2014, we had just managed a year of long distance relationship during the “year abroad” that I had to do for Uni. Shortly after I returned to Austria, we went on a kite holiday to Greece with our Swiss friends and Gernot completely overwhelmed and surprised me by asking if I would like to become his wife. With help from our friends he had planned everything perfectly with flowers, champagne and even with my (a bit cheesy but still) favourite love song “Lady” by Kenny Rogers playing in the background.

Even though I’m from Sweden, we got married in Austria as it is where we are now living so it felt natural to us. Most of the guests we wanted to invite also live here and I thought it would be a great opportunity for my friends and relatives to finally come and see what has become my home.

Due to the large guest list and our wish to have “a wedding venue with a view” we had some difficulties in finding a location which was also manageable logistic wise. Luckily we found the perfect venue in “Hotel zur Schönen Aussicht” here in St. Johann in Tirol. A traditional Austrian hotel beautifully situated at the bottom of Kitzbühler horn with a fantastic view of the “Wilder Kaiser”.

We did not hire a wedding planner but thankfully a good friend of ours is one of the most creative and lovely wedding planners one could ever ask for, Kajsa from Weddings by Kajsa. Kajsa was great and gave us tips, helped us with some of the organisational details and also set us up with our fantastic photographer Cat (Wild connections – Ekkelboom-White Photography).

We didn’t really have a theme but rustic, romantic and simple was how I pictured our wedding and the decorations to be. I did not want any bright colours or glitter but more pastel colours and a lot of flowers. With quite a lot of searching on Pinterest, a lot time spent on DIY decorations and fantastic friends helping the days before and on the wedding day with everything it in the end all turned out just perfect.

We had our “first look” and photos taken before the church ceremony up on the mountain at a beautifully restored old farm house. It was very nice to just have some time together with our bridesmaids and groom’s men before all the hectic started. Here our photographer, Cat, really helped us relax as well. She made everything feel very easy and natural even when taking photos in the pouring rain. And the photos turned out so great in the end that we are actually quite happy that it rained since it helped making the photos even more unique.

The only small regret we had was not ordering stuff or starting preparing decorations earlier. Everything, really everything takes so much longer time to do than you think it will so my advice is definately to start not just the planning but also the DIY in good time. And if you don’t have the time, get a wedding planner to help you with it. Not only would all the preparations be easier but also all the stress on the actual wedding day would be eased if you had a professional there to help you, someone with routine. We are so lucky to have fantastic friends who really worked so hard to help us get the wedding we always wanted. They really helped making what was supposed to be the best day ever, even better.”
