It can be a tricky subject when planning your destination wedding, do you or do you not invite your guests children to your wedding. I think it’s a very personal decision and there is no wrong or right answer. We will have two children at our own wedding, our niece and nephew who will be 3 and 5 and I have been thinking about simple ways we can make the day enjoyable for them, everyone else will be celebrating and enjoying the day so why not them too?

When I saw this Easter Wedding shoot, photographed by Lisa O’Dwyer it immediately inspired me. I think it’s a great idea if possible to have a child minder, older cousin or sibling at your wedding to entertain and look after your little wedding guests. You can arrange some games and adventures for them in advance of your wedding day so that on the day everyone can relax in the knowledge that the children are being well looked after and are having fun…

Why not organise a treasure hunt/Easter egg hunt in the grounds of your reception venue? Hide sweet treats and small toys throughout a specific area, a walled garden or courtyard and give each child a wicker basket or brown paper bag to stash their finds. For older children the hunt could be spread out in a larger area and you could give them maps with riddles and clues to help them find their treasure!

Once all the treasure has been found what better than a Teddy Bear’s Picnic where they can enjoy all their delicious sweet treats.

Maybe some special guests could come to visit the children?

If some animal friends aren’t an option why not pack a big bag full of fancy dress clothes and let the children play dress up.

A game of chasing or hide and seek are always winners…

And after all that running around it might be time for a nap, or a game of ‘sleeping beauty’, for both the children and whoever has been minding them!

After which they’ll be full of beans again ready to dance the night away…

Happy Easter!

Thanks Fly Away Bride for featuring our Etsy shoot! I think small weddings, especially outdoor ones, are perfect for children. And what great ideas you have to keep them entertained and busy! And I really think destination couples would love little “secret” intimate venues for their Irish wedding…like Burtown House. It’s a very special beautiful place.
