Emma and Greg, from the UK, lived in Italy for several years, and when they decided to marry they planned their return to Italy from the UK. The couple chose the Lake Maggiore area along Italy’s northern border, about on hour north of Milan. Villa Rusconi Clerici was the amazing venue chosen for their ceremony and reception, a beautiful villa featuring a stunning garden and terrace overlooking Lake Maggiore. Emma and Greg’s classy and gorgeous celebration was captured perfectly by Moumou Photography.

“We met whilst working in a bar in our local town of Sandbach, in the UK. We knew some of the same people but we had never met. There was something quite amusing about the fact that Emma was the supervisor and Greg had to follow her orders! There was an immediate attraction between us and we made each other laugh constantly. Our proposal story started when we were living in Milan and had decided to go on holiday to Liguria. We went on a boat trip to the Cinque Terre on a very hot summer’s day. Greg had been very enthusiastic about reaching the top of a particular spot in Vernazza to get the best view of the town. Having walked for what seemed like a lifetime in scorching summer heat, Greg pulled out a Pandora bag with what he said was a present inside for being such a lovely girlfriend. Out of nowhere, BOOM, Greg stole the bag, retrieves the box whilst bending down on one knee and asked Emma to marry him! Through confusion, extreme happiness and ridiculous dehydration the first words from Emma’s lips were “Is this a joke?” and “Are you sure?”.Once I realised he was being serious, we were both elated!

We married at Villa Rusconi-Clerici, Lake Maggiore, Italy. We always knew that we wanted to marry in Italy, as it’s where we had made so many beautiful memories together and we wanted to continue them. We love the surroundings of the water and the mountains and the scenery is magnificent. We looked at several venues, but as soon as we visited the villa we knew it was right for us; it is true to Italian architecture, looks unbelievable both inside and out and it has a real sense of ‘us’. We fell in love with it the first time that we went – there were different sections in the grounds for the ceremony, wedding breakfast and then dancing after, so it was really versatile too. There was also a pizza oven for us to make our own pizzas at midnight!

We used the lovely Valentina and Ernesto from Italian Lakes Wedding as our wedding planner and were delighted with her. The only challenge that we faced was the fact that we are British and in our culture we expect to have contracts signed and deposits paid plenty of time in advance. In Italy however, this is not the case. “Piano, piano” is the saying, which means “be calm”, but this was a challenge at times because of the fact we were so nervous about getting married in a foreign country! Regarding a theme or style,m we just wanted the day to be simple, modern and fresh, with a nod to our family backgrounds with hints of English, Dutch and Scottish. We did not want a very traditional wedding or anything too over the top as this is not who we are. Hopefully this comes across in our pictures.”

For Emma: “Marrying abroad! The fact that so many people had made such an effort just for us was a testament to how lucky we are to have such wonderful family and friends. Spending time with everyone for more than just one day allowed us to relax and mingle with everyone at different times. I think it took pressure away from the wedding day and created a wonderful atmosphere. I would recommend having two photographers if possible, as this allows pictures of every moment, on both sides of the party! We also had an incredible videographer which has allowed us to look back on our day numerous times and show the people who couldn’t be there, what our day was like.”

For Greg: “The whole experience! We were spoilt by the fact that we could have a pre-celebration the night before on La Palma’s sky bar, and then have the wedding at the villa, followed by an all day celebration at ‘Love Bar’ (Stresa’s really cool beach bar) the day after the wedding. It was one big party! Neither of us have any regrets. However– remember to put yourselves first. You will never please everyone, but your happiness on your day is crucial.”

“Emma and Greg brought us a lot of luck- with a photo from their wedding we earned first position in the “Getting Ready” category of the 2015 Q2 Photography Contest of WPJA, one of the most prestigious prizes in the wedding photography world. We are really thankful to this lovely couple, and wish them a life full of love and luck!”
