Laura and Rob’s destination wedding was a beautiful and rustic affair tucked away in the mountains of Cyprus. The couple’s dream was a celebration with friends and family that was also private, intimate and relaxed, so a destination wedding suited them perfectly. Laura and Rob planned the week-long celebration from their home in the UK and fell in love with the venue Vasilias Nikoklis Inn as soon as they saw it, with Laura describing it as “a real-life Mamma Mia wedding venue”. Their wedding was captured by Christodoulou Photography.

“We met during the second year of university- Rob says we met previously, but I can’t remember! We spend a long time hanging out as friends and then we finally had our first kiss, month’s later on New Year’s Eve. The following week Rob took me on our first date to Pizza Express as I had never been before. We spent the whole night planning a summer travelling round Italy. We went on holiday to Paphos and I had a sneaky suspicion that he may pop the question. I couldn’t wait any longer so searched the bedroom looking for a ring, but to my disappointment I didn’t find anything. A few days later there was a storm and Rob said we should stay in and he would cook. He told me to put something nice on to wear and brought me a glass of wine whilst I was getting ready. When I opened the bedroom door, there was a bouquet of roses on the floor and a trail of petals, I followed them and they lead to Rob, down on one knee, inside a heart made from candles. We spent the night drinking champagne of the balcony and gazing at the sky- we even saw a shooting star.

We knew we wanted to get married aborad as we wanted a private, intimate and relaxed ceremony. We also liked the idea of a week long celebration/holiday with all our close loved ones there. We choose Paphos as we loved the place, the people and the food, but also it was affordable for family and friends. We viewed a couple of venues but fell in love with Vasilias Nikoklis Inn immediately. We had exclusive use for the whole day, something that is rare in Paphos. It also has a laid back, rustic feel that I loved and on top of being beautiful was surrounded by stunning wildlife. My favourite film is Mamma Mia and I always pictured my wedding day like that. This venue really was the real-life Mamma Mia wedding venue- it was perfect!

Being in the UK and trying to plan your wedding abroad was at times stressful- I could not meet the suppliers in person and so had to wait for email replies. I felt that I had to put a lot of trust in them, but luckily they were all amazing. We did end up planned the wedding all ourselves- with the help of my Mum. This saved a lot of money and as long as you do your research and are very organised, it is easily enough done. We went for a boho rustic theme, which I absolutely loved and it worked amazingly well with the venue. The best decision we made was definitely the venue. The flowers were also stunning- I cried when I saw them! I also think that having a videographer was a good decision. I wanted to make the wedding personal, even though it was abroad, so I took all my own decoration in a suit case- people thought I was mad but it worked out really well. A lot of decorations and favours were all homemade- we used a wooden pen burner to burn people’s names into the favours, so they had a keepsake of the day. I think the guests liked this as they could see how much effort we had put in. Also the Greek dancers were amazing and got everyone in the party spirit. If we had advice, it would be to trust your suppliers, they are the professionals. Also don’t get too stressed: everything will be all you have dreamt of!”
