Over the next few weeks we’ll be taking a look into some eco-friendly venues for destination weddings in Europe. We get many enquires from couples planning their wedding abroad who want to offset their carbon footprint where they can, since many or most of their guests will have to fly to attend the celebration. With this in mind we’ve started looking outside the box regarding what can be done for a destination wedding and one such type we’ve found that combines doing something a little different with having less of an impact on the environment is the glamping wedding. I’m sure most of our readers are familiar with the concept of by glamping by now (though annoyingly enough it appears my auto correct spelling is not!) The experience of camping without the “hardships” has always appealed to me. In fact, we considered it as an option when we were thinking of getting married in Ireland.  A much safer bet however weather wise, and as it turns out one of the hotspots in Europe for glamping, is actually southern Spain. We’ve found three beautiful spots that would be perfect for a chilled-out glamping destination wedding. These venues all use local, often organic food produce, have ecological waste systems and two use solar power.

Casa de Laila

Casa de Laila sits on a hill with a panoramic view of the Guadalhorce Valley only half an hour away from Malaga airport. The five large canvas bell tents and one luxury suite can hold up to 19 people. The venue is only a ten minute walk to the nearest village which has a huge choice of restaurants, bars and other guest accommodation. You won’t be completely cut off as wifi is available, and Casa de Laila works with a nearby catering company to provide guests with locally sourced and where possible organic tasty fare. Check out this beautiful wedding at Casa de Laia.

The Hoopoe Yurt Hotel

The Hoopoe Yurt Hotel is located two hours from Malaga airport. In the middle of acres of olive groves and cork oak forest, the Hoopoe complex comprises of 6 yurts each in their own private meadow with shaded seating area and hammock, outdoor bamboo eco-bathroom and hot solar-powered shower. The facilities include large double beds covered with sheepskin rugs and antique Mongolian furniture decorated with exotic textiles. The venue caters al fresco local produce dining and they have a chlorine-free plunge pool on site. The pretty Andalusian village of Cortes de la Frontera is a 20 minute walk away. Oh and in case you are wondering what a hoopoe is, it’s a local bird.
