Well our first ‘normal’ week at FAB is over now since the holidays and the photoshoots ended and it feels like we’re getting back into the swing of things. I flew back to the States on Monday and it’s been raining here ever since so it kind of feels like I never left Dublin! So our week started off with Lindsay’s great post on choosing a destination wedding vs a wedding at home. It’s a big decision and she really nailed the essential points. Tuesday brought a fun destination wedding in Ibiza with the bride and groom planning from the UK. We looked at dahlias as a wedding flower on Wednesday and then yesterday we had a surprise engagement in Venice with some adorable photos of the big moment.

Love it or hate it? I think it’s one of those materials that can be either super gorgeous or absolutely awful! During the week I fell head over heels for this bride’s baby blue vintage jacket below. It got me thinking about other ways to incorporate velvet into your wedding (I guess I am a little bit of a fan!). And actually velvet is set for a comeback this year- both Claire Pettibone and Michelle Roth have velvet bridal dresses out this spring. Keep reading after the jump to see them!

Velvet Wedding 2013

Above are the Michelle Roth and Claire Pettibone velvet dresses from their 2013 collections. There certainly is a lot of texture on the Claire Pettibone dress, between the velvet, the pearls, AND the lace! Velvet does drape beautifully though, and there is something ultra-feminine about it.

So maybe you don’t want to go all out and wear a velvet wedding dress- above are a few ways to use the material that don’t overwhelm. I especially love the velvet heel bows! (You could DIY this too.) For those a bit more daring, velvet comes in some really striking, deep shades. The bride’s skirt below is a beautifully rich shade of red.

What do you think, would you wear velvet at your wedding? Have a great weekend!

LOVE velvet ~ this is such gorgeous style inspiration but agree, it can be a bit too heavy for weddings. Not 100% sold on velvet wedding dresses – though that pink is pretty but I want those velvet bow shoes in my life! Thanks for including some of the velvet goodness from Bridal Musings too xx
