Emma and Philip’s beautiful engagement session was captured in the Dublin mountains and the Sally Gap area only half an hour from Dublin city. Though so close to the city, the landscape of this area is almost like that of a different planet and has been the setting for many films and tv series. It’s certainly a stunning backdrop for engagement sessions, and was well chosen by Dublin-based photographer Johanna King. Emma and Philip’s session took place last April, and since the couple are big outdoor enthusiasts, this was the perfect backdrop for them.

THEIR STORY

“Philip and I met on the ski slopes in Risoul in France in January 2011 on holidays with mutual friends. We got engaged four years later, while holidaying with some of the same friends in Whistler, Canada. Philip proposed in the snow on his birthday behind the Roundhouse restaurant. We were lucky enough to win this engagement session from the lovely Johanna King. We loved the look of her photographs and so applied to win the competition and were one of the lucky couples. Loving the outdoors, Johanna suggested we do an outdoor shoot. After considering a number of locations, the Sally Gap came up as a preferred location for a rustic vibe with naturally beautiful backgrounds. The Sally Gap area is beautiful no matter what the weather, as well as being easy to find from the centre of Dublin. It’s a fantastically natural and rural setting so close to the city. Warm clothes definitely come in handy if you’re travelling there though! We are getting married in August in a humanist ceremony in the Village at Lyons, in Celbridge. We are getting more excited by the day!”
