Jummi and Philippe’s unique wedding took place on Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Since the couple loves water, they decided to get married on a boat and chose “Le Neptune”, a schooner built in 1904, for their special purpose. After tying the knot during a three hour cruise on the waters of Lake Geneva, the wedding party headed to Excenevex on the French side of the lake for aperitifs and cocktails followed by their reception dinner and party. The couple’s beautifully nautical wedding was captured by Melanie Bultez.

“I am from Seoul in Korea and Philippe is Paris-born French/Swiss. We met in kitesurfing in Vietnam, and ater a few years of long distance love, we came to Geneva to settle down. As we both love water, it was only natural that we wanted to have our wedding around the lake. We decided to have our religious ceremony on the boat “Le Neptune” which was built in 1904 and has become a symbolic boat that represents Geneva. Sailing though the waters as our marriage was blessed was a magical moment.

I created a wedding website and sent invitations via email as it was more environmentally friendly than paper invitations, plus it cost less. Everyone communicated through this website which made it so much easier to organise the guest list. The wedding dress I chose was bohemian in style which I bought online from an Australian designer. It was very casual and laidback but yet sexy style and it fitted perfectly despite having purchased it without trying it on! Decor for the ceremony was kept minimal as the lake itself was our backdrop. Small white ribbons, a few flowers in pots, lots of candles and lights were the decor which I prepared myself. My bouquet was prepared by Fleuriot in Geneva and our wedding photos were captured by Melanie Bultez. Make up was done by my sister and I picked a semi-curly down-do for my hair. My flower crown was specially made by my best friend who came from Seoul. Philippe’s suit was tailor made in Geneva, and I cut his hair. Catering on the boat was done by Entre Vous et Nous in Versonnex. Finger food and champagne were excellent and great value for food, service, and price. The setting and catering of Le Vent des Sables was excellent but since space was limited we had to limit the number of our guests to 60 persons and until the last minute we had difficulties organizing the banquet. However, all in all, it all went well without any trouble and everyone had a great time. Our photographer Melanie was a superwoman with the only smile option of “on”: she listened carefully to all our needs and has been shooting weddings for six years. She had loads of ideas made everything fit together for a great result. It was meant to be for us to have her as a photographer, she loves vintage bohemian weddings and even shed a little tear when it came to the “Yes” moment!

After three hours of cruising Lake Geneva, we moved to Excenevex which is on the French side of the lake. There is a sandy beach there where we often go to kitesurf on windy days. Our reception and evening dinner took place at the Le Vent des Sables restaurant which has private garden and direct access to the beach. The setting was amazing and we had live music at the cocktail reception. During the dinner my father-in-law sang for me, an uncle from Scotland played music and the highlight of all, my brother-in-law’s family with his three daughters performed a musical show that illustrated our love story and everyone finished by singing a song dedicated to us. At midnight we finished the party by lighting and sending ten lantern into the sky. It was a very intimate and lively banquet and everyone including ourselves had the most memorable time!”
