A beautiful lakeside wedding set in Varenna, Lake Como is just what we need this Tuesday after our bank holiday Monday! Julie and Frank fell in love with Varenna, Lake Como while holidaying in Italy the year before their wedding. The stunning gardens over looking the lake offered the most romantic setting for their outdoor ceremony that you just have to see yourself! Destination Wedding in Lombardia

This relaxed, Italian wedding is simple and elegant looking in a classic ivory and coral colour scheme but we had to show you some of the black and whites…

Julie and Frank met at their local bar and after three years together, moved into their home in Essex. We were mad to hear how the proposal went.. From Julie; “I arranged for a surprise weekend away for Franks 30th Birthday staying at a converted windmill in Norfolk. Frank thought it was a weekend just the two of us but I had also arranged for our close family to join us for the weekend. Little did I know Frank had already asked my Dads permission and bought an engagement ring and one morning suggested we climb to the top of the windmill to look at the view only for me to turn round to see Frank on one knee! I was totally surprised and the weekend turned into a double celebration!”

Frank wore his late Granddad’s watch and a new pair of cufflinks which were a present from his Mum and Dad. His suit was tailor made and he had his initials and Italy inscribed into the jacket lining… a really nice touch for a destination wedding.

How beautiful is this for a ceremony venue? “The ceremony took place outside in the beautiful gardens of Villa Cipressi looking out with the amazing view of Lake Como. We flew to Lake Como to view venues the previous May and fell in love with our venue as soon as we arrived. It is such a beautiful untouched part of the world with an amazing view everywhere you look. After walking down the aisle to Eva Cassidy’s Songbird, the Italian ceremony was translated by our wedding planner and Frank’s sister Emma and my Aunt Sue both done lovely readings to really personalise the ceremony. We wanted a more upbeat exit song so chose Jackie Wilson Your Love Keeps Lifting me (higher and higher). After the ceremony an aperitif was served including gorgeous parma ham, scallops, mini pizza served with prosecco.”

“We then had a two hour boat trip on the lake for all our guests to get to see the amazing parts of Lake Como and try to celebrity spot as we passed George Clooney and Louis Walsh’s villas! After a relaxing couple of hours on the boat with more canapé and champagne we made our way back to Villa Cipressi for our wedding breakfast including the tastiest sea bass risotto we have all ever tasted!”

“We were very lucky to have around sixty of our closest friends and family fly to Lake Como to share our day. It was a long day as the ceremony was 12.30 so we wanted to make sure we have enough food to keep everyone going! We served an aperitif at the Villa after the ceremony, had champagne and canapés served during the boat trip and then to finish the day we had a five course wedding breakfast served outside at Villa Cipressi as it was such a beautifully sunny day. All the food was fresh and tasted amazing and my Aunt had designed and made some amazing Italy themed place cards and a table planner with each table being called after an Italian city” This traditional Italian wedding cake called Millefoglie. “The entertainment started at the speeches with a hilarious speech by the best man that had everyone laughing out load then a DJ played songs requested by our guests on their RSVP to get everyone dancing to their favourite tunes! At around 11pm there was an amazing thunder storm, the lightening lighting up the sky backdrop like a free firework display over the Lake! As all our guests were staying in apartments nearby so we arranged for a minibus transfer for the short journey from the apartment to Villa Cipressi.” “The highlight for us was having so many close friends and family to share our day with us we were not sure we would be lucky enough to have that when planning a wedding abroad. There were only a few small problems that arose because it was a destination wedding, mostly due to the language barrier but calling rather than emailing normally resolved that!” We just love Italy here at FAB, can’t you tell?!If you are having any issues planning your destination wedding there at the moment, get in touch. Big congratulations to Jule and Frank on their big day and also to Belle Momenti for the images. Enjoy the rest of your day!
