CherylMcEwan_Y&A_021

Today we are thrilled to feature the wedding of a a Japanese bride who married her South African groom in his home country after meeting in Japan where they plan to return. Their photographer Cheryl McEwan tells up as bit more about this FAB couple…

Yuka and Aidan’s love story is one of pure romance that stretches across the globe! It goes a little something like this.. Dashing young South African boy jets off to Japan to teach English and meets Yuka, beautifully elegant Japanese girl, romance begins and Aidan proposes at the top of a beautiful mountain in Japan, they fly out to South Africa and tie the knot in a wonderfully intimate ceremony at Blaauwklippen in the heart of Stellenbosch. Wow I can’t tell you all how blessed I was to capture this amazing couple and how excited I was to photograph my first beautiful Japanese bride! Yuka got ready at the gorgeous SW1 guesthouse in Somerset West, which is a photographers dream for bridal portraits…

Monique & Jason’s South African Game Reserve Wedding by Jacki Bruniquel

JackiBruniquel_M&J_040

I have a real treat for you today with Monique and Jason’s wonderful Game Reserve wedding. Monique and Jason have been living in the UK for some time now but decided it was really important for them to get married where they grew up in South Africa so they undertook the tricky task of planning their South African wedding from the UK.

When Monique started planning her big day she had two main priorities: It was hugely important for her to get married in their family church, Our Lady of Fatima, and she wanted her reception to be at Tala Game Reserve near Pietermaritzburg. The logistics seemed quite tricky as they are rather far apart, so she cleverly steered away from the typical afternoon ceremony followed by pictures and then a reception. Instead they had a morning service in Durban North and then travelled straight to Tala Game Reserve for a late lunch reception.

I am so excited to share this very intimate destination wedding with you today. If you have been considering a destination wedding with only the two of you, you will definitely find Eva and Gregor’s wedding an inspiration. Photographed by Christine Meintjes their wedding ceremony took place in front of Cape Town’s majestic mountains.

“Eva & Gregor are both mountain climbers and after climbing Mount Everest and many other well known mountain ranges, the couple decided to visit South Africa and climb all over the country. Their final stop before going back to Slovenia was Cape Town. In the planning of the trip, they decided to add something special to the occasion and get married!”

Harbor Engagement Shoot in South Africa by Christine Meintjes

CM_Louise&Andre_Struisbaai_Eng_15

This lovely couple Louise and Andre were visiting South Africa to plan their destination wedding there when their photographer Christine Meintjes shot this beautiful harbor engagement session.

I met Louise in a little coffee bar in London a few months ago. We had a cup of coffee and chatted about their wedding day. We shared some ideas and talked about flowers and colours schemes. Then she mentioned that she and Andre, her fiancé, would be in South Africa in November to check out their wedding venue. And so I set up an engagement shoot for them. The wind was crazy on the day, but we still had some fun in the little harbor of Struisbaai.

GELIEFT Bridal Gowns with a Twist!

When Rina-Marie’s wedding photography arrived in my inbox and I read that her custom made dress was created from doilies, yes doilies, my first reaction was, “what, wow, how!” So who is the unbelievably talented designer behind this very unique wedding gown…

South African designers Teresa Joubert and Stephen van Eeden are the creative innovators behind the Brand, GELIEFT – Bruid & Prêt-a-Porter, specialising in Made-to-Measure Bridal Couture…

“Rina-Marie Mackenzie married Niel van Velden on the 18th of December 2010 at the Van Velden’s Family Farm, Overguaaw Wine Estate. Rina-Marie’s mom owns the quirky bakery in the heart of Ceres – MAMAMACS! And we can assure – they do bake the best cookies in the world! The wedding had an understated festive feel with old school flair and the dress, had a twist to it! The result is everything but conventional! Rina-Marie collected vintage doilies during the months prior the wedding. We incorporated these intricately handcrafted pieces of art into the design of her one of a kind dress. We swapped the French Chantilly laces for Good Old ‘Boere’ lace something truly South African!”

Anri & Anthony’s French Inspired South African Wedding

a+a_wedding_02

I can’t express how excited I am to launch Fly Away Bride with this stunning intimate, French inspired, South African wedding. Anri and Anthony met and live in London, and were married in South Africa on 10.10.10! Although Anri “was born in South Africa and this was naturally going to be the destination’” for their wedding they were inspired by their passion for everything French to add a certainje ne sais quoi’ to their wedding day and very fittingly chose the beautiful Le Chatelat as their venue.

What can I say, the stunning images taken by Annemari Ruthven Photography speak for themselves. I think Anri has to be one of the most beautiful brides I have ever seen…
