Happy Bastille Day! So a little bit of history first: On the 14th of July 1789 the French people stormed the Bastille prison, which had become a symbol of the corruption and brutality of the monarchy’s rule. This was the beginning of the French Revolution and the abolition of monarchy as the ruling system in France. The nation celebrates each year with fireworks and festivals around the country, and an impressive military parade down the Champs Élysées. We take a look today at some military style groom inspiration in honor of Bastille Day.

Inspiration ✈ Military Style

Is there anything more handsome than a man in uniform (especially a groom)? There is something very satisfying in the contrast between the femininity of a bridal dress and the upright lines of a soldier uniform. Today we’ve brought together some images from military weddings for you to enjoy. Military Style Groom

Love those bride and groom figurines, and the tank cake is certainly an unusual touch!

Your groom doesn’t need to be in the military to be as stylish as these soldiers. Check out this groom jacket style guide to see the different cuts of jackets he can wear. A double-breasted suit jacket is more modern military style, while a tailcoat or cutaway jacket is more old-fashioned soldier (sort of like what soldiers at the time of the French revolution wore!) but still extremely stylish.

Here are my two favorite images I came across when putting this post together. They are on theme though I think (just about!). The Giuseppe Zanotti sandals are ‘only’ €316…maybe I’ll start saving and treat myself for Bastille Day next year?!
