I’m so delighted to introduce Ana Lui Photography as one of Fly Away Brides sponsors. Based in Ibiza, Ana Lui captures stunning weddings all over the island and is also available to travel abroad for your special day.
I’m super excited about Ana Lui’s very generous reader giveaway!
Can you tell us a little about Ana Lui Photography and what you offer?
At the moment our team consists of myself Ana Lui, and Eva Kriuper.
We both graduated from Art Universities, which makes us a little bit geekier than other photographers we know… we love research and we love experiments !
I started my career in 2007 as a second photographer and location manager/production assistant in Ibiza, Spain. In May 2011 I will be opening my own photography studio and also for the year 2011 we are officially fully booked!
We also have Giacomo Gex on board, he joined us last year. Giacomo is a freelance videographer who enjoys working with us and makes wedding videos that make people cry… cry with joy and happiness!
So to sum it up we offer wedding photography, portraits, family shots, fashion portfolio books, video and also amazing hand made album and frames which we import form the UK.
What is your approach to photographing weddings and what is your preferred style?
My style is quite modern, relaxed, unobtrusive and fun! It’s all about you and your special day and I am there to capture your emotions, your love, your closest family and friends. I make sure I am almost invisible so the shots that I’m getting are as natural as possible. Eva and I understand each other well and we have the same aesthetic ideas and sensitivity! So our photos have similar style!
Where are you based and what cities/countries are you available to for work in?
I am based in Ibiza between May and November but from November till May I can shoot pretty much anywhere you want me to be. I have shot weddings in the UK, Poland, Dubai and Spain. Eva does a few weddings back home in Holland where she lives in the winter.
Do you have any tips for couples on how to get the most from their wedding photography?
Have a strong idea of what you want and what you need. Your wedding photographer should work with you and your needs but also be creative and open minded. It’s also very important to have help and support especially if you are planning a wedding abroad. You need someone who you can trust. The best wedding planners can be pricey but believe me they are worth every penny. They will do everything to make you satisfied, happy and relaxed!
Do you shoot engagement sessions?
Yes I do. Ibiza is such a beautiful island with sandy beaches, cliff tops, amazing sunsets that pretty much wherever you turn you see a potential location for a shoot. Imagine standing on the top of the cliff with the sun setting just in front of you… it’s the best place for lovers!
What advice can you give to couples planning an engagement session?
Get in touch with us via email and tell us what your plan is. We can arrange a secret location and be there once you arrive with your other half. We work with Ibiza based caterers, florists and concierge service companies. You could have a flamenco guitarist waiting for you with a bottle of good Spanish wine. You can choose from cliff edges, beachs, beautiful fields covered with poppies or exclusive restaurants, venues or agroturistic hotels.
Let us know how you see it !
We have had couples who book a photo session on the beach – very casual – and in the middle of the shoot, he takes out the little box with the ring inside. Photos like that are always very emotional and they really capture the moment. You can never repeat that or stage it. It’s totally priceless.
Do you have any advice for couples planning a destination wedding specifically in Ibiza?
I always say that Ibiza is whatever you want it to be. This little island is magical and it adapts to your needs and dreams. You can literally do anything and it’s just a matter of organizing it. So if you plan a wedding in Ibiza do research online. Check out www.white-ibiza.com for ideas. Contact the wedding planners and ask for a meeting. Before all that have a rough idea of what would be your dream location: beach, dramatic cliff edge venue, private villa etc.
It’s all here and it’s waiting to be discovered!
Can you tell us a bit more about the person behind the lens, how did you get into photography and what are your influences?
I’m a perfectionist and I love what I do. While studying at the University of Plymouth doing BA in Media Arts I had a chance to shoot digital, film, medium format, I have also done projects with video and Super 8.Thanks to my course I discovered photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Diane Arbus and Melvin Sokolsky. Studying gave me a lot of theoretical and practical knowledge.
I always wanted to be a fashion photographer but after shooting a few weddings I realised how powerful the real-life images could be. So reportage style is close to my heart.
I believe that every single person is beautiful and it is just a matter of capturing it!
