Who doesn’t love the surprise element of an engagement? Better still when it’s captured on camera, in a fabulous city! The combination of this future groom’s scheming plan and the lovely Venetian scenery makes Anna and Maksim’s story stand out and I can’t wait to share it with you. It started with Anna hiring photographer Luca Faz to take some shots of herself and Maksim as they strolled around Venice as a sort of “photo-walk” shoot. What she didn’t know however was that Maksim had planned to propose that day, and the fact that Luca was there to capture the moment meant everything came together perfectly! Luca describes how he shot the big moment below.
To take advantage of both the morning and evening light, we agreed to shoot early in the day and then reconvene for the evening shots. For the morning shots we walked around the Dorsoduro area of Venice. Then a little before sunset, while Anna was getting ready, Maksim shared his proposal plan with me. He asked if I knew a romantic place and I recommended San Giorgio Island in front of San Marco Square- usually free from crowds and perfect for a private moment. My idea then was to leave the camera on a tripod in video mode and then leave them alone under the pretense of having to make a phone call. Everything went according to plan- I doubt I’ll get such a candid and spontaneous reaction again from so close! Usually I do engagement proposals from far away with a tele-lens but in this case Anna was already aware of my presence since she was the one who had hired me!
And now for the important moment:
A big thanks to Luca Faz Fotografo for the lovely photos and well done to him and Maksim for the ingenious plan! Back tomorrow with our FAB 5 x
