Pam and Ricks Irish Destination Wedding ✈ by Lisa O’Dwyer

Destination weddings in Irish Castles hold a very special place in our hearts here at FAB. They remain traditional in the best of ways through their old world charm and offer true character that is just so hard to find. So, today’s wedding by Lisa O’Dwyer in Waterford Castle made us melt the minute opened the first image. Not only does this intimate family affair embody elegance and class, the couple Pam and Rick from Denver, CO are absolutely overflowing with happiness.

Aren’t the colours of the Ivy just so incredible? Waterford castle is actually situated on it’s own private Island, about 2 hours from Dublin city.

Pam and Rick met three years ago through a mutual friend and it wasn’t long before love blossomed… “We instantly connected when we met for coffee at a Starbucks. The coffee extended to a walk around a local park and a date later that day. The connection continued to grow for the several years that we dated. Rick proposed at the same park where we had our first date.”

We are always really curious as to why couples choose a destination wedding and the particular wedding location. For some couples, it’s always been a dream to get married abroad and others, it’s a way to get escape the big white wedding that is simply not for them. For Rick and Pam, it kind of happened all by itself.

“Rick had planned a family vacation to Ireland with his three kids prior to proposing. After proposing, we decided it would be fun for myself and my son to join everyone on the trip to Ireland. Once we booked the rooms in Waterford Castle and saw just how great the venue was, we decided to have our wedding their with just our kids present. We didn’t have a wedding planner but Waterford Castle were wonderful in offering suggestions on other vendors. It was a little challenging planning the wedding mainly via email given the major time difference, but with websites and photos attached to emails, we were able to quickly and easily pull the details together.”

Pam and Ricks ceremony was held outside in front of the castle and performed by Tom Colton, a medium and Minister of the Spiritualist Union of Ireland. The couple tailored the ceremony to themselves with readings by their four grown children including a beautiful sand ceremony. After the ceremony, they sat to eat their dinner and cake in the historic glass conservatory which was reserved for their use only.

And some invaluable advice from the bride… “I would say to other brides to relax and enjoy the day. Try not to get too hung up on the details. So often brides have dramas with family details and trying to please everyone. Focus on making the day pleasurable for you and the groom.. All the rest will fall into place.”

A special thanks to Pam and Rick for sharing their special day with us and also to our FAB sponsor, the lovely Lisa of Lisa O’Dwyer Photography. If you need another injection of happiness, head on over to Lisa’s blog or learn a little bit more about her here.
